Los Carpinteros, Clavos
11.10.2017 - 02.11.2017
Clavo Cuatro-Ocho (2015) is a series of large-scale outdoor sculptures depicting giant rusted and twisted nails that appear to have been extracted from their original structure and discarded. With their contorted shapes, they lose all semblance of function, though, in reality, they have been carefully crafted. The pieces sprawl on the ground like the inert bodies of fallen soldiers. Their presence in the space forces us contemplate these everyday objects that are typically bound for the scrapheap. This installation reflects the recurring game of scale that the artists play, while calling into question the issue of function: the now unusable objects bear the imprint of human action in a failed or destroyed project, as well as the positive and collective concept of the will to build.
